Rethabile Khumalo started singing at an early because her mother Winnie Kkumalo. In 2008 she became the backing vocalist on her mother’s shows. She briefly worked as a showgirl at Montecasino’s Cantare after finishing high school in a show called Heels and Feathers. She also appeared on Idols SA season 8 and 9 but was not successful.
Zwodwa Wabantu who is her mother’s friend invited to party at a pop club in Soweto where DJ Tira and his wife, Gugu Khathi was also attending. She sat next to Gugu Khathi who she talked to about her passion of music. Weeks later, Rethabile she was invited to the studio wher she recorded her first song, Nomathemba Nomathe, which translates to ‘mother of hope.’
On 09 September 2018 which was Rethabile’s birthday DJ Tira announced that she had been signed to Afrotainment.
