Bongo Beats was born in Mpumalanga, South Africa. He spend part of his life in Mpumalanga before moving to Soshanguve, Pretoria where his career as a producer kicked off. Bongo Beats has since moved to Johannesburg the entertainment hub.

Bongani Shabangu inherited the love for music from his late grandfather who was also a guitar player. His grandpa exposed him to a lot of music genres and taught him interesting staff about music. Young Bongani gradually fell in love with music and wished to be a musician. As he grew up, he started pursing him interests and several years later, Bongani transformed into Bongo Beats. He is versatile producing from dance, soul, house and amapiano genres.

After 10 years of producing good music, Bongo Beats decided to do his own tracks. He leased an album that features his hit song, “Don’t break my heart” which was certified Gold in August 2020. The album also features cool tracks such as “Dance with me ft Xoli M” which is his favourite as well as “Thando unamanga” ft Nomcebo. On the album, he has also collaborated with international artist and popular African artists from Botswana and Nigeria.
